I drew this portrait in 2020 from the iconic shot by Barry Borden that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery. Her expression here perfectly epitomises the grit and tenacity she brings to the characters she plays, and this gaze looking out from the wall of my workspace always gives me a hit of inspiration and strength. I returned to the drawing in 2023 to add depth and to further explore the lines and patterns available in her skin texture.
