I drew this from a photograph by Amy Troost, where the brilliant Michaela Coel gazes unflinchingly to camera. For my drawing, I played with the way the light pools on her skin, retaining a certain softness in the shadows, and matched the boldness of her demeanour with bold outlines. I love drawing people whose work inspires me. For the hours this piece took to complete, I was remembering I May Destroy You and how much of an impact it seemed to have on us all. What a woman.
